| CH-2 You?! |

When boss told me that we need to go.ย  I was in full focus mode. Well I was getting bored anyways. Oh btw did I introduced myself. Not that I remember.

So I'm the great Aditya Singhania. The Assistant of Reyansh Malhotra of Malhotra Enterprises. Although I hate this profession. I mean me? A assistant?! Well you are Aditya!

I'm not made for this work but god doesn't quite love me so yeah. I have an interest in music instruments, guitar to be specific.

But Indian Parents don't like the idea of their child pursuing what they like. Thats a different story which all of you know so need for me to explain.

If you think I'm the nonchalant, cold, arrogant guy who doesn't care about anything just like my boss. Oh baby you're so wrong. I like being chalant. I mean what does even guys get by staying cold.

Be chill, enjoy. You never know when you're gonna die. My family is rich but my father isn't. I mean my grandpa is a famous doctor in the city's biggestย  hospital. While my grandma runs an NGO. But when it comes to my father.

Lets just say he isn't quite good on financial terms. My grandpa even offered help but he declined so yep. I'm not rich either.

My reverie of thoughts broke when I stumbled into someone " oh I'm sorry..." my voice died in my throat when I saw the person.

There she was.

Staring at me with her ocean eyes, looking shattered. Tears spilled from her gorgeous eyes and I felt a sudden urge to go punch that person who did this to her. And why would you do that Aditya?

I don't know. She have a different charm which lures me into her. The way her fair skin glows under moonlight spilling from the window. She looks fragile. Then all if a sudden she kisses me. Yes she kissed me!?!?.

No girl had ever come near me and answer is still unknown to me. And her?

She literally kissed me.

That too on lips.

Her soft plump lips touched my cracked and chapped one. I should have worn a lip balm. I stayed like that.

Shocked.

This is my first kiss ever!!! Should I celebrate it? But I don't even know who she is. The moment lasted for just a second before she lunged on me. Wrapping her hands behind my neck and burying her face in crook of my neck. The warmth instantly enveloped me.

" why..? Why did he do that ....? Was I not enough..?" Her voice came. Low and broken. I knew this was because of a stupid guy. No I mean why would a diva like her cry. My hand instinctively reached behind her back, rubbing in to sooth her. Her tears soaked my shirt but I couldn't care less.

" Maybe he is not for you..." I said without even thinking. She cried like that for a for minutes before her body going limp. She slept in my arms, still clutching my shirt. Her tears now dried on her cheeks. Her face looked serene.

I scooped her up, holding her securely. Making sure she doesn't fall. Just then a notification pinged on my phone. I managed to see it. It was from boss that he have left.

Good thing I came with my own car. I walked up to my car, placing her quietly in the backseat. Her head rested on the other side of the head rest. I walked up to my side and sat in. The engine started and we both set off to my home.

โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”-

The elevator pinged signalling we have reached our floor. I walked up my apartment. Unlocking the password the door opened and I moved to my bedroom. Setting her down on the bed. Her eyes fluttered but she didn't woke up. I quietly removed her heels, setting them down.

I stepped forward and locked the door and going inside washroom to change. I cane back freshened up in a beige colour t-shirt and brown pants. I looked at her. She looked at peace now but then her tears strike face came in front if me and a sudden anger filled in me. I don't know her.

Yes.

But her crying did something unexplainable to me. Like I don't want to let her go. Keep her with me. Maybe it's because no girl has ever been this close to me. Yeah that's probably the only thing. I went from there towards the living room and lay on the couch.

I kept turning right or left but sleep was nowhere to be found. The club scene playing in front of me. I even checked the room and there she was sleeping peacefully and here I was sittingโ€” thinking why did she even kissed me.

Finally after a lot of turns sleep came in.

Sunlight flittered through the window bathing the room in shadows. I woke up to birds chirping. A sheer of pain shot through my head. It pounded like hell.

A blinked a few times to get adjusted to the lighting. Looking aroundโ€” it is my home. But who bought me. I sat up looking around. Why does my house suddenly look a little different. Maybe I drank to much.

Pulling off the blanket, I placed my feet down. The cold tiles sent a shiver down my spine. I walked into bathroom. Maybe Ishita might have bought me here.

Yes.

I looked in mirror, the reflection staring back at me. My while makeup was smudged. The dress I wore reeking off alcohol.

Its fabric clinging to me. My hairs looked as if birds could lay their eggs in it right now. I quickly washed my face and removed my makeup to make myself a little better.

I opened the cupboard to change into fresh clothes but all I see are men's clothes. As long as I remember I don't own any men's clothes and that I just broke up last night. So yeah.

So how are there these clothes. I'm at my house right?.....Duhh of course Gauri.ย  It looks as your. Maybe I'm just hallucinating.

So I came out and went inside the living room and my jaw literally dropped on floor.ย

I walked back out, shaking my head and froze. Because there was a man. Sitting on the couch.

Existing.

In myโ€”

"HELLO?" I snapped, staring at him.

He looked up, already looking irritated. "Oh, great. You're awake."

"Of course I'm awake! Why are you in my house?"

He blinked. "Why are you in my house?"

I let out a sharp laugh. "Oh, we're doing this? You break into my house and now you're confused?"

"I didn't break into anything," he shot back, standing up, already exasperated. "I live here."

"No, you don't."

"Yes, I do."

"No, you don't."

"Yes, I doโ€”what is wrong with you?"

"What is wrong with you?" I threw my hands up. "Who just sits in someone else's house like this?"

"Someone who owns it!"

"Yeah? Show me papers!"

"Show me your papers!"

"I don't carry house papers in my pocket!"

"Exactly!"

"That proves nothing!"

"That proves everything!"

"Oh my God, you're exhausting!"

"And you just woke up and chose chaos!"

I glared at him, fed up beyond words. "You know what? Fine. I'll prove it."

"Please do," he said, rubbing his forehead like he already regretted existing.

I stormed to the door, yanked it open, and stepped out and then stopped. My eyes slowly shifted...To the door right next to it.

My door. My actual door.

365

"...Oh."

I blinked.

Then blinked again.

"Oh."

Behind me, I heard him walk out.

"What now?" he asked, clearly done with me.

I pointed weakly at the door beside his. "...That's my house."

There was a pause.

A long one.

"Oh, for God's sake," he dragged a hand down his face, looking up at the ceiling like he had personally been cursed. "You're kidding me."

I turned to him, already defensive. "What?"

"Thisโ€”this is my luck?" he gestured between us dramatically. "Out of everyone in this building, you?"

"Excuse me?" I scoffed. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"It means my life was already going downhill," he said flatly, "and now you live next door."

My jaw dropped. "Wow. The audacity."

"The reality," he corrected.

"Oh please," I snapped. "As if I'm thrilled to see your face first thing in the morning."

"Good," he shot back instantly. "Because I wasn't planning on enjoying it either."

"Perfect."

"Perfect."

We glared at each other for a secondโ€”both equally annoyed, equally done.

Then he shook his head, muttering under his breath, "Unbelievable... a whole lizard lives next door now."

My eyes widened. "Did you just call me a lizard?"

He looked straight at me, completely serious. "Yes."

"Youโ€”" I pointed at him, speechless for a second. "You're insufferable!"

"And you're loud!"

"At least I make sense!"

"You broke into the wrong house and argued for ten minutes!"

"That was a momentary lapse!"

"That was a personality trait!"

I gasped. "You are the worst human being I have ever met."

"And you're the most chaotic one," he shot back. "Congratulations, Nackโ€”" he stopped himself mid-word, shaking his head. "Whatever your name is."

I rolled my eyes aggressively, unlocking my door. "Don't talk to me."

"Wasn't planning to."

"Good."

"Great."

I stepped inside and slammed the door shut behind me.

And leaned against it.

Because out of everyone...

Of course.

Of course he had to be my neighbour.

And then it hit me.

The kiss.

The same man from last night whom I had kissed because I was broken.

My first ever kiss!!

Ohh I missed it

Oh I wish the earth swallow me whole into it. Like how am I supposed to live now knowing I had kissed him!!

Its okay Gauri. I'll go early from tomorrow. Yes. That way my sir would not even scold me. Wow!! Gauri you're so smart.

A small smile broke on my lips. My life never stops giving me adventures. But the first thing which has to be done right now is

Me bathing.

I smell so rotten right now. I headed inside the washroomโ€”stripping off the clothes and stood under shower. I was done bathing after a long time. The lavender scent flowed in air.

Finally I was feeling myself again. I looked in mirror. I looked fresh now. Just then I heard a sound.

A growling.

From my stomach.

Oh its time to eat. Lets cook something. What should I cook... Maggi.

Yeah.

Perfect.

I made my way inside kitchen to make Maggi. The inly thing I know how to cook. The aroma hitting my nostrils. It's time to dig in.

I turned of Vampire Diaries on my iPad. I can't eat until I'm watching something. Don't ask me the reason. Cuz I don't even know my self.

Finally after finishing my food. I opened my phone. It was filled with notifications. My inbox was filled with files and every other not so important things.

C'mon Gauri. Get to work now.

Hours passed. The sun dipped lower. The day moved on.

And just like that, the chaos of the morning became something she tucked awayโ€”temporarily forgotten.

Next door, however, things were... not as easily ignored.

Aditya stood in his kitchen, staring at his coffee like it had personally offended him.

"You've got to be kidding me," he muttered under his breath.

He replayed the morning again.

The way she had walked in like she owned the place.

The confidence.

The absolute lack of logic.

"That's my house."

He let out a short laugh, shaking his head.

"Unbelievable," he repeated, running a hand through his hair.

He had seen all kinds of people. Difficult clients, dramatic situations, unreasonable arguments.

But this?

This was new.

"She didn't even hesitate," he said aloud, amused despite himself. "Just woke up and started a fight."

There was something about itโ€”about herโ€”that lingered. Not in a way he cared to admit, but enough to make him pause.

"Lizard," he muttered, recalling his own words, a small smirk tugging at his lips.

It suited her.

Annoying. Quick. Always ready to snap back.

He shook his head again, picking up his coffee. "Great. Just what I needed. A neighbor like that."

Still, the day had to move on.

He got ready, slipping into his usual routine, his movements precise and practiced. Work didn't wait, and unlike some people, he preferred his days structured.

But even as he stepped out of his apartment, locking the door behind him, his eyes flickeredโ€”just brieflyโ€”to the door beside his.

Quiet. Closed.

He paused for half a second.

Then scoffed.

"Good," he muttered. "Peace."

And walked away.

The rest of the day passed without incident.

No accidental meetings.

No arguments.

No chaos.

Almost disappointingly normal.

By the time evening settled in, both of them had returned to their respective spaces, their lives falling back into their usual patterns.

Or at least, that's what it seemed like.

Because sometimes, it only took one moment to change that.

โธปโ€”โ€”โ€“โ€“

The next morning arrived quietly.

Sunlight filtered through the windows, soft and calm. completely opposite to the storm waiting just outside.

Gauri stepped out of her apartment, adjusting her bag on her shoulder, her expression focused. She had a long day ahead, and for once, she was determined to keep everything smooth.

No chaos.

No distractions.

No unnecessary interactions.

She locked her door and turned and stopped.

Because at the exact same moment, the door beside hers opened.

Aditya stepped out, equally composed, equally unaware until he looked up.

Their eyes met.

A pause.

A very brief, very loaded pause.

"Oh, great," he muttered under his breath." Kis ki shakal dekhli subah- subah!"ย  ( who face have I seen in morning!)

Gauri blinked once, then forced a tight smile. "Apsara ki."

It didn't sound like one.

He raised an eyebrow.

Her smile dropped instantly. "Don't start."

"I didn't," he replied calmly. "You said good morning."

"It's a basic greeting."

"It's unnecessary."

She stared at him. "You're unbelievable."

"And you're still here," he shot back.

"I live here."

"Unfortunately."

"Oh, please," she scoffed, stepping past him. "As if I'm thrilled."

"Glad we agree."

They walked in opposite directions without another word

Both equally annoyed.

Both equally aware.

And neither willing to admit...

That this was only the beginning.
